Military exhibits depict the conflict between Zulu, Boer and Brit in this area of northern KwaZulu-Natal. The national coal-mining exhibits pay tribute to this unique heritage. The glass collection; a superb collection of beadwork; the bronze statue of Mahatma Gandhi; his contribution to our community and the 1913 Passive Resistance movement, represent elements of the heritage of our country. Miners Rest restaurant offers delicious meals and the Museum Shop has a good bookshop and selection of quality crafts. Two new exhibits to open in 2017 – the Dundee Story 135 years of our history and the new Gandhi satellite museum in the old court house where he was tried and sentenced for the first time in South Africa.
