Based at Rand Airport in Germiston, the museum houses a fascinating collection of static aircraft including two Boeing 747s, ‘Lebombo’ which flew over Ellis Park at the 1995 Rugby World Cup and a rare Boeing 747SP. Other aircraft include a B737-200, Douglas DC-4 and DC-6, Lockheed Lodestar and a de Havilland Dove. The Museum also houses an extensive collection of airline artefacts and memorabilia from a bygone era. Included is a library with over a thousand aviation-related books and periodicals. The museum boasts a fleet of operational classic propeller-driven aircraft, two Douglas DC-4 Skymasters, a Douglas DC-3 Dakota and the beloved Junkers Ju 52/3m. The aircraft are used for safari charters to Southern Africa’s exotic tourist destinations, corporate incentive trips and scenic flights. The museum, founded in 1986, is a non-profit volunteer organisation collecting and preserving the history of civil aviation in South Africa. The static display aircraft are used for aviation awareness programmes and fund raising for the museum and are available for corporate-related functions, conferences, product launches, award ceremonies and weddings. The museum has a lovely paved area with braai facility and tables with large umbrellas with seating for up to 50 people for hire. It is ideal for birthday or family functions with a unique atmosphere. A restaurant situated next to the museum complex serves scrumptious food and refreshments. Entrance: R40 (adults), R25 (children). Guided tours are available for schools and larger groups. Sorry, no records were found. Please adjust your search criteria and try again.
