In a real coup for Joburg – and a selection of Moja Heritage Collection members – one of America’s top rated travel magazines is bringing a group of 75 handpicked, influential and connected guests to the city for 4 days and Joburg will be splashed all over the AFAR magazine and website.

Moja Media creative director and artist James Delaney is the curator of the Joburg AFAR Experience which will offer participants the chance to experience the best and most creative aspects of the city and its people.

James says: “It’s very exciting to show off Joburg, which doesn’t often get the positive exposure it deserves as a great destination.”

The AFAR Experience in Joburg

Over the 4 days in October 2012, guests will enjoy a series of talks by leading authorities in current issues such as education and politics as well as some of Johannesburg’s talented artists, historians, chefs, and designers. Based at Melrose Arch hotel, the guests will be transported to a diverse spread of cultural and heritage attractions including Liliesleaf, contemporary galleries Arts on Main, Circa on Jellicoe and Wits Art Museum, Constitution Hill, Cradle of Humankind and the Apartheid Museum.

There will be walking tours, a bush party and a Soweto street party, with plenty of opportunities for meeting the locals.

What a fabulous opportunity for Joburg to take centre stage!

About AFAR

AFAR Magazine, awarded as the best travel magazine in America in its first year, has a paid subscription base nearing 200,000.

The mission of AFAR is to enrich lives through authentic travel experiences and connections. In 2011, AFAR Media launched a unique new platform called AFAR Experiences, a four-day event in which we bring a group of enthused and influential travellers to learn about a place, connect with the local people and celebrate their culture.

The first AFAR Experience was held in Cairo last year. They have selected Joburg as their second city, partnering with South African Tourism.

Exposure for Joburg

The January/February issue of AFAR Magazine will include a special eight-page section on the Johannesburg event. A film crew will be on hand during the Experience to interview speakers and attendees, as well as capture a variety of event footage, that will be edited and produced into a dynamic short film/promotional video to be featured on AFAR.com

A selection of top, international media will be invited to attend the event.
